2 Kings 18

Reading this chapter saddens my heart as I realize that Israel was intended to be a light upon a hill, a beacon to the world showing the God is the one, true God - all powerful and merciful. However, this chapter makes it evident that, althought the surrounding kingdoms knew that Jehovah was the God of Israel, they didnt see Him any different than the gods of all the other nations. Israel's desire was to be more like their neighboring nations and that really dilluted what God did for them.

The truly sad part is realizing that the same holds true today. Most of the world seems to know about God and many believe He exists, but see Him no different that Allah, Buddah, and any othe god of other religions.

I have to ask myself, what have we, or I, done to be that light on a hill or that beacon to the world so they know there is something more to our God than all the other gods? Can anyone point to anything in my life and say "I see the difference?" Am I more concerned in blending in with the world than standing on that hill, letting my light shine?
